SET FREE is an inner-city church in Tucson, Arizona. As the Pastor of the church, it is my hearts desire for SET FREE to reach out to people of all walks of life. Some of us may feel uncomfortable in a “Churchy” setting. We may feel like others may not welcome “someone like me”. Most of us may have various lifestyle addictions such as alcohol, drugs, smoking, eating disorders, sex, relationships, anger, lying, hoarding, internet, pornography, video games, done to excess. We have found that these things may temporarily satisfying us but the pain is still there. We also found that we want more out of life. We may be locked and bound in the chains of self-destructive and negative behavior.
Jesus Christ promised to give us a whole new life, a clean bill of health both physically and spiritually. That is what it means to be “born again” (John 3: 3) Jesus specialized in healing those who are “addicted” in our society. Jesus went out of His way to touch those whom the religious establishment said were beyond help and hope. Jesus touched the heart of the lepers, the disabled, men and woman going through various struggles, all of whom the religious leaders walked away from.
I have personally witnessed how God and His Word have touched the “addicted” and how they responded to the unconditional love and compassion of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Can you envision the church consisting of those in recovery, ex-prostitutes, ex-gang members, ex-cons, sitting next to housewives, blue and white collar workers, executives, CEO’s, suburbanites, and others worshipping together, just as it will be in heaven? The church will be praying together, loving one another, and working together to reach the lost for Christ just like the early church (Acts 2: 41-47 and 4: 32-35). Our church will be about building community within the church and reaching out to those outside of the church.
Come join us, be yourself and experience God’s unconditional love for each of us. If you want to grow in your relationship with God, work on relationships with Christian friends and reach out to those who are lost without Christ, this Church is for you!
